liars and believers

They told you your skin was ugly.
Told you your hair wasn’t good enough.
They told you that you weren’t skinny enough.
You weren’t smart enough.
You are too nerdy.
Too conservative.
You don’t need to think you just need to follow.
They fed you all these and other lies, and you believed.

Some of it probably isn’t your fault, but that’s a lie too.
You still believe. Even in the face of proof of the otherwise, you still listen to what they say.
Perpetuate their stands. Their ambitions. Their goals.

You were told to not ask questions.
That it’s the way of the world.
That is just how it is.
How it will always be.
they told you what’s sacred and what’s not.

What’s good, evil, real, fake.
Who and what to trust, and who and what not to.
How to act, feel, react, respond.
You listened, internalised, perpetuate and will continue to do so.

They lied and you believed.
They spoke and you listened.
They ordered and you acted.
They tricked you and you fell.

It’s not that you didn’t see it, you just aren’t willing to do anything about them.

Don’t worry though, you aren’t the only one, most of us did.

Hell! I fell for it too, I’m just not staying down for it.

What will you do?
